A glimpse into OKC's dynamic community development: OAK

By Selena Romero / Development / May 20, 2024

Oklahoma City is rapidly evolving as a premier destination for both locals and visitors, thanks to its dynamic developments and ambitious projects. One of the most anticipated developments is OAK, an innovative urban village set to redefine the city’s landscape. OAK promises to be a hub of activity, seamlessly blending residential, commercial and recreational spaces to create a vibrant community.

Stacy Schuch, general manager of OAK, recently moved to Oklahoma City from Atlanta, bringing a wealth of experience in retail developments. “I had lived in Atlanta for a large part of my life, and I’ve seen a ton of retail developments across the United States. And, I can confidently say that OAK is going to be truly special. OAK will introduce a new way of living, shopping and dining to Oklahoma City, a community that has not yet had an experience-driven, hospitality-focused mixed-use destination to call its own,” said Schuch in a recent panelist discussion with the Greater OKC Chamber.

OAK will feature luxurious accommodations and residential spaces, including a 132-unit hotel slated to open in late August. This hotel will offer an amenity deck with scenic views of Heartwood Park. Additionally, the complex will provide 320 multi-family units, offering stylish and comfortable living options.

Further sharing details on Heartwood Park and the community aspect at OAK, Schuch adds, “We believe art plays a crucial role in cultivating community and connection, but OAK's larger-than-life sculptures are bringing more than just art to Heartwood Park."

"Cloud Trees and Cloud Puncher are poised to become iconic landmarks for Oklahoma City, adding to the vibrant culture of the community. The sculptures are currently being installed and we can’t wait to share the awe-inspiring installations with OAK’s visitors, residents and tenants. In addition, we are incredibly proud to be working with local artists to create murals and artful encounters throughout the property,” continued Schuch.

Developer Ryan McNeill heavily drew from the successful blueprint of the award-winning Avalon development in Alpharetta, Ga., in crafting his vision for the ultimate retail-based center at OAK.

OAK will feature a diverse array of retail and dining experiences. In addition to established brands like Capital Grille, Pottery Barn and Williams Sonoma, new-to-market tenants such as RH, Tommy Bahama, Marlin Bar, Arhaus and Mesero are also joining the development. While some stores will debut this year, others, like RH (formerly known as Restoration Hardware), are set to open in mid-2025, further enriching the area's long-term appeal.

A key aspect of OAK is its commitment to community initiatives and connectivity. The development plans to distribute surplus food from on-site restaurants to local charities, demonstrating their dedication to supporting the community. Additionally, OAK will integrate with existing city infrastructure, connecting biking and walking trails to promote an active lifestyle. This focus on connectivity ensures that OAK is not just a place to live and work, but a community hub fostering healthy and sustainable living.

Seasonal and themed events will also play a significant role in making OAK a year-round destination. A temporary ice rink will be installed around Thanksgiving, offering festive fun through early January. OAK will host a variety of music events and other activities, ensuring a lively atmosphere that attracts both locals and tourists throughout the year.

OAK represents a broader vision for the city's future, combining traditional strengths with new, exciting developments. By investing in world-class facilities and creating vibrant, community-focused spaces, Oklahoma City continues to enhance its appeal as a top destination.
