Fairgoers can now see a new landmark at Oklahoma City Fair Park with the installation of “Bolt Tower,” a 72-foot sculpture by Jenny Sabin Studio. The city commissioned the piece as part of the MAPS 4 project.

Located between the Bennett Event Center and the OG&E Coliseum, the tower honors Fair Park’s 118-year history, which includes livestock shows, concerts, 89er games, sporting events, the monorail and the space tower.

“With thousands of visitors coming to OKC Fair Park each month, this massive sculpture creates a new landmark,” Kirk Slaughter, President & CEO of Oklahoma State Fair, Inc., said. “The fact that the sculpture and the artist team worked to preserve and highlight the Fair Park's history means a lot to our long-time show partners and residents.”

Jenny Sabin Studio is inviting the public to share Fair Park photos and memories for inclusion in a 3D-printed time capsule at the base of the tower. Photos can be submitted online  through Tuesday, Sept. 30.

“Bolt Tower is a 72-foot-tall landmark and tensegrity structure designed to spark curiosity, celebrate community, and bring fresh energy to OKC Fair Park,” Jenny Sabin, principal and co-owner of Jenny Sabin Studio, said.

Sabin said the tower was inspired by the mid-century sculptures once found at Fair Park to connect the past to the present, honoring memories while looking toward the future. The design is made with innovative materials and design techniques, making it lightweight and striking in scale.

“By day, Bolt Tower catches the eye with its bold form and colorful presence. By night, it comes alive with glowing light and shifting colors, creating a welcoming beacon for visitors. As both a meeting point and an icon, Bolt Tower embodies Oklahoma City's creativity and spirit, offering locals and visitors alike a vibrant new symbol of Fair Park.”

The project was funded through Oklahoma City’s 1% for the Arts program as part of MAPS 4 construction of the new OG&E Coliseum. Jenny Sabin Studio, based in Ithaca, New York, has worked with clients including Nike Inc., the Cooper Hewitt Design Museum and the American Philosophical Society Museum.
