Sur La Table is for the chef in us all

Sur La Table sells kitchenware products, but to describe them as simply a kitchenware retailer would be an understatement. The company focuses on the experience of cooking as much as selling knives and pans by offering hands-on cooking classes, tastings and demonstrations in their locations.

“Sur La Table understands how to curate the customer experience and provide something unique” said Tammy Fate, manager of Retail Development and Recruitment for the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber. “They are more than a place to buy great products for your kitchen, they are a destination for people who love the culinary experience. The classes and hands on demonstrations contribute to their overall  success with brick and mortar stores.”

While Sur La Table, the second-largest specialty cookware retailer in the U.S., sells products geared towards chefs, don’t think that means their stores aren’t for amateurs. According to Jan Phillips, district manager for Sur La Table, their stores are for anyone with an interest in the art of cooking.

“Customers passionate about cooking and entertaining can discover our leading selection of global brands encompassing cookware, kitchen electrics, tools and gadgets, bakeware, tabletop, glassware, cutlery and domestically sourced food and accessories,” Phillips said. “The location will also feature a cooking school where cooks from beginner to advanced can take a class, build skills, and get inspired to live a better life through cooking.”

While a myriad of decisions go into a company deciding where to expand to next, Sur La Table was quick to point out Oklahoma City’s vibrant food culture played a role into their decision.

“Oklahoma City has increasingly become known as a vibrant food city, full of culinary innovation, and we couldn’t be more excited to be opening our first store in Classen Curve,” said Phillips.

The opening of Sur La Table also shows the continued momentum for the Classen Curve development.

“We are delighted they chose Oklahoma City as their first location in the state,” Fate said. “This continues to make Classen Curve one of the retail hotspots in our city. They’ve developed a complimentary tenant mix of local and national tenants that continues to elevate the experience.”

While the store will officially open on Nov. 7, they will hold their official grand opening on Nov. 17 with sales, food tastings and more.
