Chamber's annual D.C. trip is important for OKC business
It’s almost time for our annual trip to Washington, D.C. to meet with the members of Oklahoma’s Congressional Delegation. I am frequently asked why we go and what we hope to accomplish.
Quite simply, when business leaders speak up for what they believe, they get more attention than average citizens. They are quoted in the media and their business perspectives hold a lot of sway in Washington.
What happens in D.C. can have a huge impact on us here in Oklahoma City. Our elected officials need to know what those impacts – positive and negative – are and how they might affect our local economy. And we need the insight our representatives provide to better understand the how’s and why’s of the federal legislative process.
It’s a quick trip that is packed with potential. We’ll be briefed on pending legislation, hear from military officials and have the opportunity to develop, or further cement, relationships with our Congressional Delegation and their staffs.
If you aren’t going with us on May 1 and 2, please give it serious consideration for next year. It is a great tool for ensuring that the voice of the OKC business community continues to be heard by our representatives in Washington.
