Metro 50 profile: SJ Innovations

Sacia Johnson, CEO of SJ Innovations LLC, started her business in 2012, but she recently started looking at which market offered the least startup capital. This quest kept leading her back to the government market, where she sees the most success.

And, she said, she believes diversification is in the future.

“Starting with residential, we are now looking at some commercial technology products that may be released later. We have also learned that for a company to survive you must diversify,” Johnson said.

Johnson began SJ Innovations as a way to create a business that was related to her technology background, but would also be fun, she said. The company started as a venture where she incorporated real estate and technology with low overhead.

SJ Innovations, a woman-owned small business based in Oklahoma City, now provides telecommunications, information systems and technology services to federal government agencies like the Federal Aviation Administration and the Transportation Safety Institute.

Using profits from her time in real estate, Johnson grew the business by being strategic and creating a solid business plan. She gathered a core staff around her and used that staff to maintain and expand her business through relationships with customers.

Specializing in telecommunications support, electrical analysis and review of fingerprint security systems, SJ Innovations has a reputation as a powerful technology-based company.

“One challenge was to find a way to overcome the appearance of a one-person/woman operation and show my clients that I could really support them,” she said.

“Since this is primarily a service business, we try very hard to keep our promises and be accountable, reliable and responsive. Once customers see you will truly do what you say and surprise them when you can by going above their expectations, they will look to you again.”

Early on, Johnson said she was focused on future opportunities to expand the company to provide service to federal government agencies. 

“We continue to focus on providing the highest-quality service possible to our existing customers while we continue to scan the horizon for new opportunities to expand our growth through the acquisition of new contracts with various government agencies,” she said.

“We are a financially strong company with a good D&B (Dun & Bradstreet) rating.  We also have a very strong local bank – Arvest – to work with. I believe the future will be bright as we continue to diversify and try to expand into more markets.”
