Metro unemployment rate among best in the country
The latest unemployment numbers released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics continue to be good news for the Oklahoma City metro economy, and state of Oklahoma as whole.
For the month of June, the Oklahoma City MSA had an unemployment rate of 3.7 percent. This time last year the unemployment rate for the metro was 4.3 percent. In fact, the unemployment rates were lower than a year earlier in all 77 Oklahoma Counties.
“The unemployment rate, compared to this time last year, shows a local economy that has really stabilized after low energy prices caused some upheaval in 2016 and 2017,” said Eric Long, research economist for the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber.
Currently the Oklahoma City MSA has the 15th lowest unemployment rate among large metros with more than one million in population in the country.
