OKC metro sees lowest unemployment in more than 30 years

For September, the Oklahoma City MSA had an unemployment rate of just 1.9%. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 1.9% is the lowest unemployment rate experienced by the Oklahoma City metro in the more than 30 years of recorded data currently displayed on its website (1990 to 2021).

This represents a sizeable decrease in unemployment from August’s 2.7% rate. In August, OKC had the lowest unemployment rate in the country for metros with more than 1 million in population. September’s rate of 1.9% was second in the country trailing only Salt Lake City (1.7%).

Statewide the unemployment rate was 3% while the national average was 4.8%. For more employment data click here.
