Oklahoma City No. 6 in the nation for renters

Oklahoma City has been listed as having the sixth-lowest rental prices within the nation’s top 100 major cities for one-bedroom, and two-bedroom, units by Zumper.com.

The site analyzes rental data from over 1 million active listings to calculate median rent prices for the nation’s major cities. One-bedroom rent prices have continued to increase across the country, prompting potential tenants to rethink their requirements for housing. Location, size, amenities, and lease lengths were all listed by the site as areas that may require sacrifice from renters. Zumper also noted an increase in people looking to live with roommates to combat climbing living expenses.

Oklahoma City was listed as having a median price of $850 for one-bedroom units and $1,000 for two-bedroom units. While these prices do reflect an increase in costs since last year’s report, one-bedroom units decreased in price from the month prior to the current report.

Neighboring communities have not been as lucky. Tulsa was pinpointed by Zumper as a “surprising boomtown,” with an increase of nearly 39 percent for rental units since last year, following only Fresno, California, and New York City for highest increases by percentage. The site credits Tulsa’s remote-worker initiative, as well as cannabis industry growth for the city’s quick increase in population.

Other local cities like Plano, Dallas, and Irving; Texas were listed within the top 40 most-expensive cities, overall. Tulsa finished in the 80^th spot, while Oklahoma City was ranked 94.
