Report shows OKC is one of the nation’s least expensive cities to live in

By Richard Hall / Economy / June 14, 2023

A recent batch of data released by a national economic research firm shows Oklahoma City is one of the country’s least expensive cities to live in. Oklahoma City came in at No. 17 on the list of 271 participating cities.

The Council for Community and Economic Research published its analysis of the first quarter of 2023. It confirms something a lot of OKC residents already know: their earnings go a lot farther on expenses like housing and groceries than they would in many other cities across the country.

For example, if you are earning $50,000 in Dallas, the comparable income to achieve the same standard of living in Oklahoma City is 18% lower at $40,905. That means:

  • Groceries will cost about 6% less.
  • Housing will cost about 27% less.
  • Utilities will cost about 16% less.
  • Health care will cost about 9.5% less.

It’s no wonder so many Texans are interested in moving to the OKC area. If you’re thinking about relocating to OKC and want to see how much money you could save on basic living expenses, check out our cost of living calculator.
