Will Rogers World Airport sets two new travel records

Business is booming at Will Rogers World Airport as Oklahoma City saw 391,389 passengers last month, a record for March. That’s 22% higher than the same time last year and 10.6% higher than the previous record set in 2019.

Airports Director Jeff Mulder said higher airfares and fewer flights aren’t keeping travelers away.

“The strength of the OKC air service market is evident,” Mulder said. “The airlines have not restored all of our markets since COVID due to a lack of pilots. The passengers have returned in record numbers and we expect as the airlines continue to recover, we will continue to see a great future at OKC.”

Will Rogers also broke records for the first quarter of the year. A record 980,188 passengers flew in and out of OKC from January through March. That’s 44,845 more passengers than the previous record, also set in 2019.

The airport’s recent terminal expansion makes traveling through Will Rogers easier than ever. It features a larger, consolidated security checkpoint, wider concourses, a public observation deck and public art installations. Several new shops and restaurants have already been added including Osteria, a classic Italian cuisine restaurant and craft bar. It opened last month on the west concourse.

Construction has begun on the central concourse iStore along with Oklahoma’s News 9 Travel Essentials. Currently in design for the west concourse are Plenty Mercantile and The Apartment, a new concept specializing in home décor.

Hatch, a local breakfast hot spot, opens early next year.
