Compete for a cause at the 40th Annual Redbud Classic
The Redbud Classic is rerouting its races to Nichols Hills Plaza as the community comes together to celebrate life, fitness and philanthropy April 15-16.
The Classic will celebrate its 40th anniversary with 10- and 30-mile bike tours, a 50-mile fondo, one-mile kid’s run, 10K run, 5K run and a one-mile “Woof Walk” for dogs on its first day.
The second day of events will include a two-mile walk and baby stroller derby, 5K wheelchair and pushchair event, team fitness challenges and Redbud BASH.
The bash is the official Redbud Classic after-party, where attendees can cheer on race participants as they complete their courses. Live entertainment, family-friendly games, food trucks and vendors like Chamber member COOP Ale Works will also be a part of the after-party bash held on April 16 at 1 p.m. in Nichols Hills Plaza.
“Our community thrives off good deeds and the Redbud Classic wants to provide a way to continue doing so while having fun and connecting with Oklahoma City,” said Kristin Hersom, Redbud Classic race director.
The event’s Board of Directors selects an Oklahoma City nonprofit organization to partner with and support through event proceeds each year. This year’s event will benefit Wings Special Needs Community (Wings), an organization focused on improving the lives of adults with developmental disabilities. Established in 2004, Wings provides social and vocational programming to adults, and plans to provide residential programming soon.
Consisting of about 1,100 participants in its first year, the Redbud Classic has since drawn in more than 300,000 registrants, donated more than $900,000 to local nonprofits and has become known as the city’s second-largest competitive event.
You can register as a participant, donate to the cause or sign up as a volunteer for this year’s 40th-year celebration at www.redbud.org.
