Hasta La Muerte brings Día de los Muertos celebration to OCCC

By Chamber Staff / Events / October 20, 2025

The Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) Visual and Performing Arts Center, located at 7777 S. May Ave., will host Hasta La Muerte at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2025.

Created by the band Las Cafeteras, Hasta La Muerte is a two-act theatrical and musical performance that honors Día de los Muertos, the Indigenous and Mexican tradition of remembering loved ones who have passed. The show combines original and traditional songs, choreography, poetry and theater to explore themes of life, loss and memory.

The story follows La Catrina, Patron Saint of the Dead, as she comforts the living and guides the departed to the afterlife. Along the way, she meets folkloric figures such as La Llorona and La Bruja, connecting traditional Mexican folklore with new narratives celebrating resilience and love.

“Hasta La Muerte resonates deeply with audiences who have experienced loss,” said Hector Flores of Las Cafeteras. “It’s about remembering that death is not the end, but a continuation.”

The performance reflects OCCC’s mission of student success and community enrichment by bringing diverse cultural experiences to the OKC metro. Hasta La Muerte not only supports the college’s educational and artistic goals but also recognizes the city’s growing Hispanic community, which plays a vital role in shaping OKC’s culture and economy. By hosting performances that celebrate traditions such as Día de los Muertos, OCCC provides opportunities for connection and learning that strengthen understanding and inclusivity across the community.

Tickets range from $40 to $75, plus handling fees, and are available at occc.edu/tickets or by calling the OCCC Box Office at 405-682-7579.
