Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma celebrates 60th anniversary season

Now in its 60th anniversary season, Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma is providing live performance entertainment to locals throughout the year.
Following the completion of its season add-on, “Big River: Theatre for Young Audiences Version,” Lyric Theatre is now preparing for its main stretch of performances through the fall. An additional add-on, the theatre’s 13th annual production of “A Christmas Carol” will be held during the holiday season.
“We are producing at full capacity, and I am excited to welcome returning and new theatre lovers from around the state and country to experience live theatre created right here in Oklahoma,” said Michael Baron, producing artistic director at Lyric Theatre.
“Happy 60th anniversary to Lyric artists and patrons across the globe who made this celebration possible!”
Baron served as a panelist at a recent Greater Oklahoma City Chamber Forum, which focused on the economic impact of performance arts in Oklahoma City. When asked what the local arts community can do to attract additional audiences, Baron said local performances must provide rich experiences in contrast to the constant stories we are all watching on TV or the Internet, “So, people leave their homes to see a story worth telling.”
Founded in 1963, the Chamber-member theatre was formally designated as the Official State Theatre of Oklahoma last year. Oklahoma Senate Democratic Leader Kay Floyd said the theatre serves as “an essential part of this state’s cultural identity” and emphasized its statewide economic impact by attracting audiences from around the nation.
Upcoming performances by Lyric Theatre at Plaza Theatre and Civic Center Music Hall include:
- April 5-23 – “The Play that Goes Wrong”
- June 27-July 2 – “The Sound of Music”
- July 11-16 – “The Prom”
