Oklahoma City Thunder camps help kids take control of their game

By Erick Perry / Events / May 19, 2022

Whether kids prefer the court or a controller, the Oklahoma City Thunder is helping get their game started this summer. The NBA organization is hosting a series of summer camps with focuses on either, basic basketball development or hands-on coding curriculum. In addition, each camper will receive a ticket to a 2022-2023 Thunder game.

Thunder Coding will take place in Oklahoma City for youth ages 7-14. These camps offer activities ranging from beginner to advanced, directed at developing skills in coding, design, and collaboration in sports entertainment. Facilitated by iCode, the four-hour crash-course will allow attendees to create their own Rumble video game through game making software, Construct 3. The camps are powered by Google and will be held on June 18, and July 16.

The Thunder Youth Basketball camp will tour across the state, from May 31 to August 2, for those looking to play the old-fashioned way. These basketball camps will give kids the opportunity to figure out the fundamentals of the sport. Through three-hour sessions of development drills, Thunder “Hustle Camps” will dive into defense, ball-handling, shooting, layups, and more. Three-day “Breakaway Camps” will bring some competition with drills and hands-on instruction from Thunder Youth Basketball coaches.

Thunder Youth Basketball camps will begin in OKC, before continuing to other cities:

  • Tulsa, OK
  • Carthage, MO
  • Lawton, OK
  • Moore, OK
  • Woodward, OK
  • Shawnee, OK
  • Enid, OK
  • Midwest City, OK
  • Norman, OK

You can find a complete list of camp details on the NBA website.
