Remington Park’s 2025 American Quarter Horse & Mixed-Breed Season underway
Remington Park’s American Quarter Horse, Paint and Appaloosa Season is underway. The 50-date race season began March 6 and welcomes top owners, trainers, jockeys and horses from across the nation to compete for over $14 million in purses.
In addition to the races, Remington Park officials have created a schedule full of events to enhance the race day experience and fundraise for local nonprofit organizations, allowing attendees to enjoy the action while contributing to charitable causes.
“This season offers a variety of both serious and not-so-serious racing events—from thrilling, high stakes horse racing to fun and family-friendly signature events like Extreme Race Day for Charity, where exotic animals race down the track,” said Matt Vance, Remington Park’s executive vice president of racing. “We encourage both seasoned racing fans and those who are new to the sport to mark their calendars for this exciting season.”
The American Quarter Horse and Mixed-Breed Season will provide a schedule of events unique to Remington Park, enhancing the racing experience in Oklahoma City.
Extreme Race Day for Charity
The arrival of April 13 will bring back one of Remington Park’s major charity fundraisers, the annual Extreme Race Day for Charity, which usually draws one of the park’s largest crowds each year. Exotic animals, such as camels, zebras and ostriches, will take the track alongside other animals like miniature donkeys and Clydesdale horses. This family-friendly event will begin at 4 p.m., taking place between pari-mutuel horse races. In addition, Flying Pig races will take place on the track’s Plaza.
Kentucky Derby Hat & Tie Contest
Coinciding with the world’s most famous Thoroughbred race, the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky, Remington Park will host its popular Hat and Tie Contest on Saturday, May 3.
Attendees are encouraged to dress in their best Derby attire and compete for cash prizes. Entry into the contest is free, and contestants must be at least 18 years old. The event will take place on Track Level.
Live racing at Remington Park will begin at noon, with the 151st running of the Kentucky Derby broadcast live from Churchill Downs later in the day.
Quarter Horse Closing Night
The American Quarter Horse and Mixed-Breed Season will end Saturday, May 31, with several stakes races offering purses totaling more than $2.3 million. The first race starts at 5 p.m.
Funds raised during events throughout the year are donated to nonprofit groups designated as Remington Park Charities. In 2024, Remington Park raised over $95,000 for these organizations.
The 2025 Quarter Horse and Mixed-Breed Season runs from March 6 to May 31. Races are scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and 4 p.m. on Sundays. Special post times include Kentucky Derby Day, May 3, at noon and Preakness Stakes Day, May 17, at noon.
