Bolt Tower Rises as a New Landmark at OKC Fair Park

A new landmark now rises above OKC Fair Park, blending public art, innovation and community history. The 72-foot Bolt Tower sculpture was recently dedicated, marking another milestone in the ongoing transformation of one of Oklahoma City’s most iconic destinations.
Created by Jenny Sabin Studio, Bolt Tower honors Fair Park’s 118-year legacy, from livestock shows and 89er games to concerts, sporting events, the monorail and the former space tower. Located between the Bennett Event Center and the OG&E Coliseum, the sculpture serves as both a visual centerpiece and a gathering point for the millions of visitors who pass through the fairgrounds each year. Integrated into the structure is a 3D-printed time capsule filled with photos and memories from the community, linking Fair Park’s past to its future.
At night, the tower is illuminated in red, pink, blue, purple and green hues, creating a striking presence during the annual State Fair and evening events held year-round. Designed as a tensegrity structure, the sculpture combines lightweight materials with bold scale, reinforcing Fair Park’s role as a destination for innovation, entertainment and cultural expression.
Bolt Tower was commissioned through Oklahoma City’s 1% for Art program as part of the voter-approved MAPS 4 construction of the new OG&E Coliseum. The investment reflects the city’s commitment to integrating public art into major infrastructure projects and elevating the visitor experience at key civic venues.
The 1% for Art ordinance dedicates 1% of the construction budget for city buildings, parks and trails to public art, with a resident-driven selection process that engages dozens of community members from concept to City Council approval. Together, initiatives like MAPS 4 and 1% for Art continue to shape spaces that strengthen Oklahoma City’s identity, support tourism and enhance quality of life.
