Science Museum Oklahoma, the state's only hands-on science museum, is debuting a new holiday experience, Winter WonderLab, on December 21-23 from 6-9 p.m. This immersive event offers a fun and interactive way for families to celebrate the season with science-based activities.
With more than 390,000 square feet of exhibits and activities, Science Museum Oklahoma is one of the largest science museums in the nation. The museum’s mission is to enrich lives by revealing the wonder and relevance of science, encouraging science literacy and helping families build a strong foundation in the subject.
Science Museum Oklahoma invites guests to Winter WonderLab to engage in hands-on holiday-themed experiments, offering an exciting variety of activities that spark curiosity. Participants will also create holiday-themed treats and crafts they can take home.
“The interactive experiments and activities in our new Winter WonderLab give families something out-of-the-ordinary to do indoors during the holidays, sparking curiosity and mixing science with festive fun,” said Sherry Marshall, Science Museum Oklahoma President and CEO.
Winter WonderLab activities include the Gravy Boat Regatta, where guests will race boats powered by wind through a gravy-based non-Newtonian fluid. The Chimney Santa Drop is a holiday twist on the classic egg drop contest featuring a chimney.
An Indoor Snowball Fight using soft, poof ball “snow” instead of traditional snow will be a fun feature for guests of all ages. In an activity that combines aspects of creativity, recycling and engineering, guests can build a Cardboard Gingerbread Village using recycled cardboard.
Guests can make Peppermint Cotton Candy by feeding crushed candy canes into a cotton candy machine. The Gum Drop Constellations activity allows guests to use gumdrops that represent stars to form constellations.
The Kinetic Art Holiday Cards project combines paint and marbles in a well shaken container to create holiday card designs. In the Holiday Photo Frames activity, guests can craft their own photo frame to showcase their holiday memories. Guests can also use water marbling techniques to make unique patterns on paper in the Marbling Prints workshop.
Guests who participate in all activities will receive a Holiday Angles STEM ornament construction kit.
Tickets for Winter WonderLab are $12 for members and $15 for non-members. Admission includes all activities and access to the Love’s Planetarium at no additional cost. All events take place at the museum’s east entrance.
