One of the simplest ways to save on housing costs is to find someone to share your space with. Though roommates are not for everyone or for every stage of life, they are a great way to cut your monthly costs in half or more.

The Oklahoma City metro area is a great place to find a roommate. Roommates.com recently launched an initiative to “deep dive” into data and trends regarding roommates, rents, demographics, and movement of renters. Among its findings, the report ranked Norman as #2 and Edmond as #9 for the Top Ten Cheapest Rent Cities list for 2021.

In Norman, the average rent cost is only $493 per month. With a median income of $50,714 and a cost of living 10.6% below the national average, it’s a great place for young professionals to live and work—or commute into Oklahoma City.

The average cost of rent in Edmond is only slightly higher at $559 per month. As the fifth-largest city in Oklahoma, this Oklahoma City suburb stands strong on its own as a community full of outdoor, cultural, retail, and dining. The city also has a well-respected public school system and is home to the University of Central Oklahoma. With a median income of $71,825, Edmond is a place where members of the community can afford to live comfortably and enjoy all the community has to offer.

Because many companies have shifted to remote working or to indefinite work-from-home schedules, individuals from across the country are looking for places to live where they can maximize their paycheck. Over the past couple of years, Oklahoma has seen an influx of new community members who have discovered the hidden gems within our great state.
