The Oklahoma City Council voted to name a 17-field soccer complex, located at 11711 Portland Ave., and operated by the North OKC Soccer Club, after business leader and philanthropist C.B. Cameron.

“The Cameron family are generous patrons of OKC parks initiatives, including Scissortail Park and the Myriad Botanical Gardens,” Ward 8 Councilman Mark Stonecipher said. “This is a meaningful way to recognize C.B.’s contributions to our community. He continues to be missed by his family and the many people who knew him.”

Cameron and his father, C.W. Cameron, co-founded American Fidelity and First Fidelity Bank. C.B. died in a plane crash in 1977.

The Camerons launched American Fidelity Assurance Co. in 1960 after years in the insurance business. The company, rated A+ (Superior) by A.M. Best since 1982, is one of the largest private, family-owned life and health insurers in the U.S., serving more than 1 million policyholders in 49 states.

The Cameron family has a long history of civic involvement in Oklahoma. Through the Cameron Park Restoration Fund, they have supported local governments in restoring and enhancing green spaces and recreational facilities. The family has also partnered with Keep Oklahoma Beautiful, the Oklahoma Parks Initiative, the Oklahoma City Community Fund, and has been a strong advocate for youth sports and outdoor education programs across the state.

Later this year, the complex will undergo $25 million in improvements funded through MAPS 4. Planned upgrades include 10 new fields, a plaza with shaded seating, concession areas, restrooms, hospitality spaces, improved parking, a maintenance facility, new irrigation and better pedestrian access.
