Greater Oklahoma City Asian Chamber of Commerce established

The Greater Oklahoma City Asian Chamber of Commerce has been officially established. 

The organization was celebrated during a media event at Grand House Asian Bistro on Wednesday. Greater Oklahoma City Chamber President and CEO Christy Gillenwater, Governor Kevin Stitt, Mayor David Holt and other state and city leaders joined the newly established chamber for the celebratory announcement event. 

The Asian Chamber was established to serve the increasing amount of local Asian-owned businesses, as well as the various Asian communities within Oklahoma City. 

“Asian American and Pacific Islander residents have made a tremendous impact in the State of Oklahoma and across the nation, serving in vital leadership roles at the local, state and national level, leading businesses, making breakthroughs in science and technology, building businesses, serving in our military, serving in public office, excelling in sports, arts, education and more,” Governor Stitt said. 

The Oklahoma City metropolitan area has nearly 50,000 Asian residents, according to the 2020 Census. The area has been credited in having 5,300 Asian-owned businesses, providing $203 million in payroll and $1.25 billion in sales. 

Inaugural President of the Asian Chamber Scarlet Le-Cao said the organization began forming in early 2022 from a small group of local entrepreneurs and quickly became what is now a formal board of directors and committee members.  

“The Asian population is incredibly diverse, and we want to preserve our cultural heritage and support economic development for Asian communities in the greater Oklahoma City metropolitan area,” Le-Cao said. “It is critically important to advocate, represent and provide our communities with valuable tools for their businesses and professions.”
