Help area students by donating school supplies

Scissortail Park is hosting a supply drive for Oklahoma City Public Schools, and donations can be made at the park office throughout the month.
“We are looking to get packs of socks and undergarments for students in grades K – 12,” Scissortail Park Event Coordinator Ramsey Tarrant said. “We are really excited to donate not only clothing but also school supplies with the help of Frontier City.”
People can drop off their donations Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Scissortail Park office, with the donation bin located in the parking lot of the Scissortail Park office, or on Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Scissortail Park Farmer’s Market, where the donation bin will be located in the information tent.
Scissortail Park is located at 300 SW 7th Street in Downtown Oklahoma City.
Tarrant said Scissortail Park has shifted focus to a month-long donation drive to maximize giving efforts.
Scissortail Park has also teamed up with Chamber member Frontier City and will be receiving school supplies from their donation drive weekends, which are Aug. 6-7 and 13-14, and those will be delivered to OKCPS as well, she added.
“Our hope with this drive is to provide the students of OKCPS basic resources, so that they are able to focus their efforts on their studies rather than worrying about how they will receive these necessities,” Tarrant said. “Helping our community is part of our organization’s mission, and we are thrilled to support OKCPS.”
Scissortail Park is also hosting a Back to School Bash and Big Game Night tonight, August 5 from 6 – 10 p.m. Admission is $10, with a portion of the proceeds going to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma.
Admission also includes entry to win raffle prizes as well as free lawn games, an arts and crafts station, catch and release fishing led by our park rangers, and organizations sharing their resources and programs.
"This is the first year that Scissortail Park is hosting a Back to School Bash that we have produced,” she said. “What started off as a skate night/give-back night to support Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma has since grown into a full evening of activities with several community partners providing games, information and prizes for all to come out and enjoy.”
Next Wednesday August 10, The Chamber is hosting its State of the Schools event. The Chamber and American Fidelity Assurance Company invite attendees to bring school supplies to the event for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Oklahoma County. Supplies can also be dropped off at The Chamber office prior to the event.
