OKC Energy Football Club (FC) Ownership is in the process of acquiring an undeveloped property south of Bricktown and east of the Oklahoma City Convention Center. As part of this venture, the ownership group intends to donate 7.2 acres of the acquired land to the City for the construction of the Multipurpose Stadium.
To facilitate the proposed project, the Downtown TIF Review Committee is contemplating the allocation of economic development funds to supplement the budget for the MAPS 4 Multipurpose Stadium.
The City will take ownership of the stadium, while the remaining portion of the property will be developed by OKC Energy FC Ownership into a sports-centered entertainment district.
The potential increase would elevate the budget from $41 million to $71 million, with $30 million sourced from Tax Increment Financing (TIF) and other economic development funds. TIF, a mechanism enabling targeted economic development or redevelopment through redirected taxes, is instrumental in supporting the expansion of the stadium's budget.
This proposal, contingent on the stadium's downtown location, is set to be reviewed by the Oklahoma City Economic Development Trust on Jan. 5 and by the City Council on Jan. 16.
The stadium's design incorporates a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) approved pitch, seating for approximately 8,000 spectators, locker rooms and suites. Envisioned as a catalyst for a sports-centered entertainment district, the venue mirrors successful models in Louisville, Kentucky, and Indianapolis, Indiana, with a similar project underway in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.
Approval for the land donation is pending from the MAPS 4 Venues Subcommittee and the MAPS 4 Citizens Advisory Board and is expected to occur in early spring. The stadium will be the City's exclusive venue with a USSF-approved pitch, fostering professional men's and women's soccer. Additionally, the surrounding entertainment district will provide access for visitors to stroll from nearby establishments to attend events.
