New Visit OKC video highlights the people and heritage of Oklahoma City's Asian District

Oklahoma City's Asian District is a neighborhood shaped by generations of immigrant families, local entrepreneurs and a shared commitment to preserving cultural heritage. A new Visit OKC video highlights the people behind the district's history and its continued growth.
The video features three community voices who share their perspectives on what makes the Asian District a distinctive part of Oklahoma City.
A community built on heritage
Thien Nguyen, original founder of the Asian District Cultural Association, shares his experience arriving in Oklahoma City as a Vietnamese refugee in 1980 and reflects on how immigrant families established businesses that helped shape the district.
Oklahoma City Ward 2 Councilperson James Cooper discusses the district's resilience and entrepreneurial spirit, along with ongoing efforts to improve walkability, transportation and housing.
A new generation of growth
Andrea Schultz, owner of HQ Coffee and Matcha, shares how growing up in the Asian District inspired her to create a gathering space that celebrates Asian cultures and welcomes the broader Oklahoma City community.
Schultz also highlights the district's evolution into a destination where visitors can spend an entire day exploring restaurants, shops and public art.
Together, their stories offer a look at how Oklahoma City's Asian District continues to honor its history while creating opportunities for future generations.
