Norman NOAA meteorologists named top job in Oklahoma, among nation’s best

A new survey by Career.io ranks meteorologist positions at the National Weather Service office in Norman as theNo. 1job in Oklahoma andNo. 9nationally. 

The survey asked 3,002 respondents across the country to rank jobs based on interest and perceived excitement. Meteorologists at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration are viewed as holding one of the most interesting science and public safety roles in the U.S. 

At the Norman office, forecasters analyze atmospheric data, prepare public warnings and issue forecasts related to hazards including tornadoes, flash flooding, high winds, winter storms and marine weather. Staff also launch weather balloons, support research, deploy mobile radar units and help refine predictive models used in emergencies. 

NOAA meteorologists in Norman earn between$85,000 and $95,000annually, according to Career.io. The group described the job as “real-time science with lifesaving stakes.” 

Other Oklahoma jobs also made the national list. 

Ranked second in the state andNo. 27nationally, data scientists for the Oklahoma City Thunder analyze player and team performance to support game strategy. Their work involves building predictive models, providing coaching staff with insights and turning raw numbers into on-court decisions. 

Holding the No. 3 spot statewide is the role of systems engineer at Boeing’s Oklahoma City operations. These engineers design military and commercial aircraft and help meet safety and compliance requirements set by the Federal Aviation Administration.
