OKC Comets cap historic postseason with first Triple-A National Championship

The Oklahoma City Comets capped a historic postseason Saturday night, rallying to win the first Triple-A National Championship in franchise history.

Oklahoma City defeated the Rochester Red Wings, 5-3, in 10 innings in Las Vegas, overcoming an early deficit before pulling ahead in extra innings. Rochester took a 2-0 lead through the first two innings and held Oklahoma City scoreless until the eighth.

The Comets broke through with a run-scoring single from Mike Sirota and an RBI double from Ryan Fitzgerald to tie the game. With the game still tied in the 10th, Alek Thomas came to the plate with the bases loaded and delivered a double into the left-center gap, clearing the bases and giving Oklahoma City a 5-2 lead. Rochester scored once in the bottom half of the inning, but the Comets held on to secure the national title.

The victory came just two days after Oklahoma City defeated the Las Vegas Aviators, 5-2, in a decisive Game 3 to win the 2026 Pacific Coast League Championship. The title was Oklahoma City's sixth Triple-A league championship and second in four years after also winning in 2023. It was the franchise's second league championship during the Bricktown era, which began in 1998.

“Our Comets are officially the best team in all of minor league baseball,” Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt said in a social media post following the national championship victory. “Following their sixth league championship earlier this week, this is the first Triple-A Championship in OKC history.”

The Comets previously advanced to the Triple-A National Championship game in 2023 but fell short. This time, the victory capped a dominant finish to the season, with Oklahoma City winning 21 of its final 25 games and finishing with a 90-60 record.

With a Pacific Coast League title and the franchise's first Triple-A National Championship, the Comets closed the 2026 season atop Triple-A baseball.
