Oklahoma City is gaining national recognition, with top travel publications highlighting its cultural and entertainment offerings. The Horizons District, home to the First Americans Museum (FAM) and the OKANA Resort and Indoor Waterpark, has been a focal point in these features. Both attractions, operated by the Chickasaw Nation, provide a mix of history, entertainment and family-friendly activities.

Southern Living named OKC one of the 25 Best Places to Go in the South in 2025, spotlighting the Horizons District for its deep ties to Native and Indigenous cultures. The article featured FAM, which opened in 2021, noting its role in honoring Oklahoma’s 39 First American Nations. The museum highlights the tribes originally from this region and those relocated to Indian Territory, celebrating their cultures, histories, and contributions.

Southern Living also highlighted the OKANA Resort and Indoor Waterpark, a $400 million development that opened in late February. The resort includes a hotel, amphitheater, meeting space, spa, restaurants, and family entertainment options.

For those planning a visit, Southern Living’s “The 35 Best Things to Do in Oklahoma City” offers insights on activities, dining and cultural experiences. The publication also released a neighborhood guide covering Bricktown, Stockyards City, Downtown, the Paseo District and Automobile Alley.

Condé Nast Traveler recognized OKC’s cultural scene by naming FAM one of the Best Museums in the U.S. The article highlighted key exhibits, including collaborations with the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian, works by Indigenous artists, a Native cuisine-inspired restaurant, and a store featuring First American artists and businesses.

Travel + Leisure included OKC in its 20 Best Places to Travel in April, featuring FAM for its focus on Native and Indigenous history. The OKANA Resort and Indoor Waterpark was highlighted as a top lodging choice. As OKC’s largest commercial investment, OKANA is projected to generate a $97 million economic impact in its first year, with over 500 employees. Chickasaw Nation Gov. Bill Anoatubby noted that over the next decade, the development's impact could exceed $1 billion.

These national features highlight OKC’s growing reputation as a must-visit destination. Explore the articles and start planning your trip to experience the city’s expanding Horizons District.
