OKC gears up to stage Olympic events for LA28

As we count down the three-year mark until the LA 28 Olympic Games, excitement is rising not only in Los Angeles but also right here in greater Oklahoma City. The Olympic spirit is set to shine brightly in our community, as we prepare to stage softball and canoe slalom competitions, underscoring Oklahoma City's commitment to sports excellence and community engagement.
The Games will officially kick off on July 14, 2028, with the opening ceremony taking place at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, a historic venue that has hosted the Olympics before. In this spirit of shared celebration, Oklahoma City will make its mark on this global event by welcoming athletes and spectators to our renowned venues. The Oklahoma City Whitewater Center will stage the canoe slalom competition from July 14 - 22, 2028, showcasing our city's state-of-the-art facility designed for elite athletes and adventurous spirits alike.
In addition to canoe slalom, Oklahoma City will be home to softball events taking place at Devon Park from July 21 - 27, 2028, a venue that has frequently hosted the NCAA Women's College World Series as well as international events. These competitions will allow our city to display its rich sporting tradition and its capacity to host world-class events.
Both competitions are critical components of the Olympic schedule, which features a historic arrangement of athletic events. Oklahoma City's inclusion highlights the collaborative spirit of these Olympics, fostering a sense of unity across the nation. Our excitement is palpable as we envision the world’s top athletes competing in our community, inspiring local youth and igniting a passion for sports.
The Greater Oklahoma City Chamber is leading these preparations and looks forward to welcoming visitors and athletes from around the globe. With LA 28 rapidly approaching, we are ready to embrace this opportunity to showcase our city’s hospitality, resources, and dedication to athletic growth.
