OKC named the No. 5 city for an affordable wedding in 2021

From the dress to the flowers, the venue, catering, and entertainment—wedding costs add up, easily costing thousands. Though a large wedding is never cheap, Oklahoma City is a great place to host your dream wedding without breaking the bank.

SmartAsset recently named OKC the fifth most affordable to host a wedding in 2021 compared to the 97 largest cities in the United States. According to the study, the national average cost of a wedding fell from $28,000 to $19,000 over the last year, largely due to the pandemic.

The average cost for an Oklahoma City wedding in 2020 was $19,625, the 19th lowest in the study.

To determine which cities are most affordable, the study considered the area’s average wedding cost in 2020, number of religious establishments per 100,000 residents, parkland acreage per 1,000 residents, number of catering businesses per 100,000 residents, number of hairdressers, and clothing professionals per 100,000 residents, number of wedding service providers per 100,000 residents, number of dining and entertainment venues per 100,000 residents, and property and violent crime rates.

The top ten most affordable places of all 97 cities include:

  3. St Louis, MO
  4. Omaha, NE
  5. Oklahoma City, OK
  6. Henderson, NV
  7. Lincoln, NE
  8. Kansas City, MO
  9. Cleveland, OH
  10. Denver, CO
