Visit Oklahoma City (Visit OKC) has issued a call to artists, architects and designers from all mediums to create an iconic and immersive public art installation in the Bricktown Entertainment District. The project will replace the Centennial Fountain in United Way Plaza, offering a bold, interactive piece that captures the vibrant spirit of Oklahoma City while serving as a unique photo opportunity for the city’s 24 million annual visitors and residents.

"Major cities and tourism destinations have must-see places where you go and snap a picture to share your unique experience," said Zac Craig, president of Visit OKC. "While OKC has invested in vibrant public art across our community, we’re excited to create something special for OKC from a visitor experience."

This public art project continues Oklahoma City’s legacy of using creative installations to enhance public spaces, reinforcing the city’s identity and cultural growth. The high-traffic location near the Bricktown Canal, Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark and OKC Streetcar line are key parts of the city’s entertainment district, making it an ideal canvas for dynamic and engaging artwork.

“This area is a gateway for the region’s premier entertainment district, and it is due for a reimagining,” said Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt. “Thanks to this project, we have an opportunity to make it memorable and special, and I can’t wait to see where this project leads."

The project is funded by the federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) and supported by the Inasmuch Foundation, marking a collaborative public-private effort to create a lasting symbol of Oklahoma City’s creativity and energy.

"Inasmuch Foundation is thrilled to partner with Visit OKC to add an iconic art piece in Bricktown," said Bob Ross, Chairman and CEO of Inasmuch Foundation. “The ARPA funding provides unique opportunities for public-private partnerships. Inasmuch Foundation is proud its grant dollars will come alongside the ARPA investment to enhance the quality of life in OKC."

Artists are encouraged to submit proposals that incorporate interactive elements, creative use of “OKC” or “Oklahoma City” and features such as lighting or sound, while ensuring the installation is durable enough to withstand Oklahoma’s weather. This project aims to create an iconic focal point that will attract visitors and solidify the city’s commitment to world-class attractions. The design award ranges from $400,000 to $500,000, covering all expenses including design, construction, and installation.

Partnering with the City of OKC’s Office of Culture & Arts, Visit OKC ensures that this installation supports future public art and placemaking initiatives, further establishing Oklahoma City as a top destination.
