OKC Streetcar Launches Six-Month Free Fare Pilot

Officials with EMBARK have launched a six-month pilot program offering free rides on the OKC Streetcar through July 5, aiming to boost ridership and support downtown economic activity.
During the fiscal year ending June 30, 2025, the OKC Streetcar recorded a new annual ridership high of 288,517 riders. While ridership has continued to grow, EMBARK officials say peer cities with fare-free downtown streetcar systems have seen even greater gains.
“Removing fares can reduce barriers to use and significantly increase ridership,” said Jesse Rush, director of EMBARK. “This pilot will help determine whether a permanent fare-free service is the right long-term strategy for the OKC Streetcar.”
Rush noted that ridership consistently increases during periods when the streetcar is free, including during the Downtown in December promotion.
The pilot gives residents and visitors an opportunity to move more easily around downtown for dining, shopping, and events. EMBARK officials also say the streetcar can help reduce traffic congestion as downtown housing and attractions continue to grow.
The OKC Streetcar operates seven days a week with seven modern streetcars running across two loops and 22 stops. During the pilot period, riders do not need a ticket and may board at any streetcar platform.
