OKCPS board approves name for new middle school
The Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) Board of Education approved Skyline Middle School as the name for the district’s new middle school.
“Naming the new school Skyline felt like the perfect fit,” said OKCPS District 7 Board Member Meg McElhaney. “From the campus, you can see the Oklahoma City skyline, and it’s a daily reminder to our students that their future is wide open. This name reflects the hope, ambition and pride we have in our kids and our city. It’s exciting to see bond projects like this come to life and to know we’re investing in beautiful, high-quality spaces where all students can thrive.”
The name was selected through a community-led process by an advisory committee that included McElhaney, families, staff and students from Capitol Hill and Wheeler middle schools. The group reviewed community submissions, gathered input and recommended the name to the board.
The new school, funded through the OKCPS 2022 bond approved by more than 60% of voters, will be built at Southeast 25th Street and High Avenue. It will serve students from Capitol Hill and Wheeler middle schools, which will close as middle school sites when Skyline opens.
The school is scheduled to open in August 2026. The architect is The Stacy Group, and the construction manager is Willowbrook Construction.
