Oklahoma City baseball team to rebrand, announces temporary name

Oklahoma City's professional baseball team is getting a new name. Until the name is chosen, you can just call them the "Oklahoma City Baseball Club." The Triple-A team, formerly known as the Oklahoma City Dodgers, will retain the temporary name through the 2024 season. The new, permanent name will be announced at the end of the season.
Throughout the transition, the team will maintain its affiliation with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The process of establishing a new identity is already underway. It involves hosting meetings, focus groups and engaging with key community leaders and stakeholders for input. Team officials said they want to embrace the future of baseball in OKC with a unique, fun name that shows off OKC’s vibrant personality.
"For the last nine years, it has been an honor and a privilege to share one of the most iconic brands in all of professional sports," said Oklahoma City Baseball Club President/General Manager Michael Byrnes. “However, we’re excited this new era affords us the opportunity to strengthen our connection to our community and reinforce that we are Oklahoma City’s team.”
Los Angeles Dodgers General Manager Brandon Gomes added, "Our Triple-A affiliate in Oklahoma City has been an incredible partner over the last nine seasons, and we look forward to continuing our relationship with them for many years to come."
During Sunday home games for the 2024 season, the team will wear the City Celebration jerseys and hats introduced earlier this year for the 25th anniversary of the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark opening. The opening of the new ballpark marked the end of the team’s first name, the 89ers, in favor of the RedHawks.
The uniforms pay tribute to the franchise’s storied history, which began in 1962. Thursday night home games will feature a blast from the past as the players don refreshed 89ers jerseys and hats. Further theme nights for the 2024 season will be announced later.
The Blue Crüe entertainment team will return in 2024, along with fan-favorite mascots Brooklyn and Brix. Both will have new looks and uniforms.
New team merchandise is available now in the Team Store on the west side of the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark and online at okcbaseball.milbstore.com.
The OKC Baseball Club's first home game of the 2024 season is scheduled for Tuesday, April 2. Season tickets and group outings are currently on sale, with more information and tickets available at okcbaseball.com.
