Oklahoma City's reputation as a premier basketball destination continues to grow, with USA TODAY readers naming it the nation's Best NBA City in the publication's 2026 10Best Readers' Choice Awards.

The recognition was announced Oct. 21, just as the Oklahoma City Thunder began its 2026-27 season. Oklahoma City earned the top spot among NBA markets nationwide, while Paycom Center and the Thunder's game-day experience received additional honors.

Paycom Center was named Best NBA Arena and finished second in the Best NBA Arena Dining and Concessions category. Rumble the Bison also earned recognition as Best NBA Mascot, adding to the list of accolades for the franchise.

"Being named the No. 1 Best NBA City is a defining moment that reflects the bold vision, electric energy and fierce community pride driving Oklahoma City forward," said Christy Gillenwater, president and CEO of the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber. "The Thunder players and organization are incredible ambassadors for our community and continue to bring national and international attention to OKC. Whether you're here to cheer on the team or explore everything our city has to offer, Oklahoma City delivers an atmosphere that is truly one of a kind."

The rankings were determined through public voting, highlighting the enthusiasm surrounding professional basketball in Oklahoma City.

The recognition follows a historic period for the Thunder, which captured its first NBA championship in 2025. The team's success has brought increased national attention to Oklahoma City, while the city's passionate fan base continues to make Paycom Center one of the NBA's most recognizable home-court environments.

New offerings enhance the game-day experience

As the Thunder begins another season, Paycom Center is introducing several new food options for fans attending games.

Among the additions are smoked bologna paninis, birria nachos and pork belly burnt ends. Fans looking for something sweet can visit a new edible cookie dough bar, featuring chocolate chip, Rumble Dough and Red Dirt Rally flavors.

Local favorite Empire Slice House is also introducing a pizza created exclusively for Paycom Center. The new offering features roasted chicken, red bell peppers and onions, finished with a barbecue-sriracha drizzle.

The additions expand the arena's food and beverage selection, giving fans more options to enjoy throughout the basketball season.

A city built around basketball

Since the Thunder arrived in Oklahoma City in 2008, the franchise has become an integral part of the city's identity, drawing fans from across the region and contributing to the energy of downtown on game nights.

With the 2026-27 season underway, the USA TODAY recognition underscores what Thunder fans have demonstrated for nearly two decades: Oklahoma City's basketball culture is one of its greatest strengths.
