Oklahoma County landed a top 10 spot on MoneyGeek’s “20 Growing US Counties Where Homeownership Is Still Affordable” list.

For many, affordability of housing is a top priority in searching for a place to call home. With costs rising across the nation, many places have become overpriced for those living on an average wage. However, Oklahoma County – home to Oklahoma City – has remained among the top spots for the everyday American looking to build a future.

MoneyGeek analyzed counties throughout the United States on two primary factors: post-2019 home appreciation and homeownership costs as a percentage of the county’s median income.

Oklahoma County ranked seventh, overall, the highest of any county in the region. With a 30 percent appreciation rate in home prices over the past three years, and a county-wide median home price of $200,321, the county is poised as prime real estate.

The site also presented homeownership costs as a percentage of median income. Oklahoma County is listed at 38 percent, with a median income of $35,151. This is a more favorable percentage than nearly every other county listed in the top 20, meaning in Oklahoma County, you can expect lower monthly homeowner costs than most other growing counties in the United States.

MoneyGeek used data from the National Association of Realtors, SmartAsset, and the U.S. Census to determine their rankings.
