Provide input on city park improvements during MAPS 4 open house discussions

By Erick Perry / Inside OKC / April 6, 2023

The City of Oklahoma City has announced its next series of open house discussions on the MAPS 4 Parks improvement initiative to solicit public opinions on community needs.

The debt-free initiative, approved by local voters in a 2019 special election and funded by city sales tax, allocates $154 million for the creation, improvement, and ongoing upkeep of neighborhood and community parks, and other public spaces across the metro. The city has held several open house discussions already, inviting the public to chime in on what they feel would best suit their respective regions, along with providing an online survey for locals to voice their opinions.

Potential improvements to Oklahoma City’s 105 neighborhood and community parks range from informal practice fields, walking trails and play structures to botanical gardens, splashpads and bathrooms. However, the city is open to incorporating other ideas provided by community members.

Additional open house discussions that will be held in April are listed below:

  • April 10, 3-5 p.m. – Southwest OKC Library, 2201 SW 134th St.
  • April 13, 5-7 p.m. – Santa Fe Life Center Atrium, 6300 N Santa Fe Ave.
  • April 17, 3-5 p.m. – Capitol Hill Library, 327 SW 27th St.
  • April 18, 5-7 p.m. – South Oklahoma City Chamber, 701 W Interstate 240 Service Rd.
  • April 20, 5-7 p.m. – Minnis Lakeview, 12520 NE 36th St.
  • April 22, 9-11 a.m. – Lake Overholser Boathouse, 3115 E Overholser Dr.

Final improvement plans will be based on community feedback, as well as onsite park assessments and current park standards.
