Scissortail Park sets its sights on two national awards

Scissortail Park is currently nominated for two national awards as part of USA Today’s Readers’ Choice Awards.

The downtown Oklahoma City public space is currently battling for the top position in both Best Outdoor Concert Series and Best Splash Pad categories.

Following nomination by a panel of experts – comprised of family and lifestyle writers, travel writers, photographers and more – the publication’s editors further filter the list of nominees into a final list of choices. Then, readers can vote for their favorite attractions once per category, per day through the end of the contest on April 17.

Scissortail Park’s first section to the north, where the outdoor concert venue and Scissortail Sprayground are located, opened in 2019 and has since become a local hotspot. The park’s lower portion opened in 2022, extending the reach of the city’s downtown, incorporating even more green spaces, athletic fields and walking trails.

The park was established as part of the city’s MAPS 3 initiative, which utilized a limited-term sales tax in improving community infrastructure.
