Summer is the most opportune time of the year to venture out and explore. As we approach the midpoint of the season, our Oklahoma City parks have a wide range of events and activities for the whole family.

Scissortail Park
Farmers Market — The Farmers Market occurs 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday now through October. Find fresh produce and ingredients while supporting our local farmers.
Zumba Class — Want to learn Zumba or want to interact with fellow Zumba pros? Zumba classes are available Saturday mornings now through October at the Event Pavilion. Park staff members encourage everyone to join – and the best part, it’s free!
Scissortail Park Walking Club — Another free event is the Scissortail Park Walking Club. This event welcomes participants of all ages every Thursday and Saturday morning for a self-paced walk around the park. Take advantage and enjoy the scenery and the morning sunset.
Compost Corral — From 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 20, learn from local organizations on how to start your own compost. Build camaraderie and collaborate with our community to practice more natural, sustainable methods. This monthly event occurs every third Thursday now through September.
State Fair Park
Arabian & Half-Arabian Youth National Championship Horse Show (July 13-22) — We know Oklahoma City loves its horses! The OKC Fairgrounds is hosting the Youth and mid-Summer National Arabian & Half-Arabian Championship Horse Show. Come see the horses live and in person, and cheer on riders and handlers as they compete in a number of activities and events. General admission is free.
Martin Park Nature Center
World Snake Day Celebration — Wildlife enthusiasts and caretakers will educate spectators on the benefits and behaviors of snakes. Celebrate with Martin Park Nature Center 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 15, to see and learn everything there is about snakes.
Stars and Stripes Park
OKC Parks Skateboard Clinics (July 19-21) — If you have children who have a desire to learn skateboarding, now is the time! Stars and Stripes Park is hosting a clinic for beginners on skateboard fundamentals, rules and safety precautions. Pricing for skateboarding lessons varies with individual and group rates – check with park staff and clinic instructors for details.
Myriad Botanical Gardens

Photo Walk — Got a new camera and want to know how to utilize its full capabilities? The Myriad Botanical Gardens Photo Walk event can help with that! Professional photographers and camera equipment experts will be on hand to take you on a guided tour to show you how to operate your gear with the goal of producing stunning photographs. Get comfortable with photography while basking in the best sights and scenery of OKC 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, July 20.
Gardens Walking Tour — The Myriad Gardens Walking Tour occurs at 10 a.m. on the last Saturday of each month. Visitors will see new plants from our region and learn care and maintenance tips. Admission is free, but pre-registration to attend is recommended.
Willa D. Johnson Recreation Center
The legacy of Willa D. Johnson in Oklahoma City lives forever. As the first Black woman to serve on the Oklahoma City Council, Johnson defined public service far and beyond. The new Willa D. Johnson Recreation Center will signify community to promote health, wellness, education and development. Amenities like an indoor fitness center, gymnasium and sponsored programs will have a lasting impact on our city. Join the Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation division at the intersection of I-35 and NE 10th St. for the highly anticipated grand opening of the Willa D. Johnson Recreation Center Saturday, July 15. Information on general admission to the recreation center will be announced.
