A good day to pie hard: It's pot pie season in OKC

Can you feel it? Fall is in the air. With the changing colors of leaves, bonfires, flannel and pumpkin everything comes another fall favorite—comfort food.

In my book, it doesn’t get more comforting than chicken pot pie. And OKC has plenty to choose from that will leave you completely satisfied. I tried several places in my quest to find the best, traditional chicken pot pie in OKC. Here is the inside scoop on places that won’t disappoint.

Café 7: Pocketed in a delicious buttery crust, the perfectly seasoned veggies (including new potatoes) and chicken form a creamy mixture that you’ll no doubt enjoy.

Kitchen 324: If fried chicken and pot pie got married, this dish would be their child. Aside from the inventive presentation with a fried chicken leg atop the buttermilk crust blanket, the fried chicken nestled into the creamy goodness puts this comfort dish over the top.

Paseo Grill: The presentation is great, coming in its own little cast iron skillet, but the flavor is even better. Rich with a crust that covers both soft and crispy, this savory dish has a hint of curry that will not disappoint.

Pie Junkie: This Plaza District hotspot has several take and bake options and guys…this is not a drill…they have one made with COOP Ale Works beer called Veggie Ale Pot Pie. It is a true vegetarian dish and has mushrooms, brussels sprouts, carrots, potatoes, sweet potatoes, onion, garlic, lemon and rosemary. However, for this round, it was the tried-and-true traditional chicken pot pie I tried. At first glance, it appears to have a beautiful crust. But then you bite into it and realize it’s not just pretty to look at, it’s perfection. The ratio of sauce to veggie and meat was just right. Priced at a reasonable $6.75, this pot pie is a solid choice.

Sweets & Eats: A downtown favorite for many, this version might very well take you back to your childhood when you bite into the biscuit-y pie crust. Catch their creamy pot pie most Wednesdays as their blue plate special.

As the weather cools you might find yourself craving something warm and hearty. Throw on some stretchy pants and use this guide to pick what’s for dinner.
