Celebrate Black History Month with the Metro Library

By Kaylee McDaniel Cale / Lifestyle / February 1, 2022

Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month, an annual celebration of achievements by Black Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. The Metropolitan Library System will celebrate Black History Month with diverse library programs throughout Oklahoma County in the month of February.

On-demand programming includes an interview with Oklahoma filmmaker Laron Chapman, a conversation with Nigerian-American author Tochi Onyebucha, and a video celebrating the historic all-Black towns of Oklahoma as seen through the quilting of Beverly Kirk. View a full list of on-demand programs.

In addition to the on-demand programming, the Metropolitan Library System has made it easier to access resources that celebrate Black History Month all in one place, including titles in their physical catalogue, films and documentaries on Kanopy, audiobooks on Hoopla and resources for kids.
