Donít call it a comeback
As we enter Phase 2 of COVID recovery, more and more of our favorite attractions are opening back up. Of course, some of the rules and procedures have changed at each to ensure everyone follows proper social distancing guidelines but most are back open for business. Let’s be honest: We’ve never needed a walk through the Cat Forrest at the Oklahoma City Zoo more. Below is a quick update on some of the attractions opening back up. Of course, this is far from an exhaustive list. Be sure to visit the website of your favorite hangout to get the latest information.
- The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum opened this week. The public will finally get to see the new children’s outdoor experience Liichokoshkomo’ (pronounced Lee-cho-kosh-ko-mo). Its outdoor setting encourages play while connecting visitors with the social and historical influences that shaped the West. The museum has undertaken rigorous cleaning and has implemented hand sterilization stations throughout the museum. The interactive elements of #HashtagTheCowboy museum have been removed or restricted. And you’ll finally get to meet Internet sensation, Security Guard Tim.
- The Oklahoma City Zoo opened in early May but you have to make reservations online for its Outdoor Safari Walk, which takes guests on a modified pathway through the park to view a majority of the Zoo’s outdoor animal habitats. For the health and safety of the guests, team members and animals, and to ensure adequate social distancing between guests, the Zoo will limit the number of guests allowed to visit per day.
- RIVERSPORTS Adventures has opened Phase I activities which include offering kayak and stand up paddleboard rentals at all three locations – Boathouse District, Lake Overholser and Lake Hefner. Other popular attractions such as whitewater rafting, tubing, zipline, and the six-story Rumble Drop are closed for now but will be reopened at the end of the month. Riversport has been aggressive in its season ticket prices, slashing them by as much as 50%.
