“While this has been a truly great summer with thousands of visitors enjoying our unique downtown adventure destination, we are not done yet!” said Holland Taylor, marketing coordinator at RIVERSPORT.
Just because the summer’s ending doesn’t mean the fun at RIVERSPORT has to end, too! With plenty of fun Fall activities scheduled, the upcoming months at RIVERSPORT will be making waves—literally and figuratively.
“Late summer and fall can be the best times to enjoy RIVERSPORT. We are rolling out some exciting new attractions and events designed to keep the momentum and complement our returning favorites, like Glow, Labor Day’s RIVERSPORT Rodeo, and the Oklahoma Regatta Festival,” said Taylor.
Coming this fall – Slide the Rapids, a 600 ft long water slide at RIVERSPORT Rapids! Slide the Rapids starts with a 40 ft tall water slide that turns into a Slip ‘N Slide, all the way down Love’s Island. Take a wild ride on this wild slide – only at RIVERSPORT.

Oklahoma Regatta Festival – September 28-30
The 2018 Oklahoma Regatta Festival will take place Sept. 28-30 in the Boathouse District. The three-day celebration of rowing, kayaking, dragon boating, whitewater rafting and family fun includes the Oklahoma City University Head of the Oklahoma race, OGE NightSprints, and a family festival featuring food trucks, beer gardens, a front row seat for all the racing – and RIVERSPORT Adventures.
The annual OCU Head of the Oklahoma includes 2.5 mile head racing during the day featuring teams from across the country competing in collegiate, masters, and junior rowing as well as kayak and dragon boat racing.
During the Oklahoma Regatta Festival, the 500-meter OGE NightSprints are held on the river after the sun goes down, creating an electrifying atmosphere for competitors and spectators alike.
Spectators are invited to bring a lawn chair or blanket to enjoy racing on the Oklahoma River, then check out the action at RIVERSPORT Rapids and Adventures.
RIVERSCREAM – Fridays and Saturdays in October
A recent outburst of terrestrial gamma-ray flashes appear to have transformed RIVERSPORT into….RIVERSCREAM!
A mysterious lightning bolt was seen violently shooting from a single cloud, its gamma rays transforming adventure guides and guests on the RIVERSPORT Sky Trail into a zombie-like state. The extreme contagion of this unnatural phenomenon calls for immediate mobilization of a high security operation, code name: OKC Zombie Task Force.
Courageous citizens are needed immediately to contain the Zombies before they escape and terrorize the city. We must reverse the gamma ray effects by activating explosive transformers located throughout the six-story Sky Trail, now being called the Sky Scream.
The Sky Scream is still smoldering; visibility will be limited and you will find the gamma radiation has caused normal insects to grow to abnormal and frightening sizes on the structure. We must also warn you…the screams of those who’ve already been affected can be unnerving.
Once the transformers have been activated, your team will have only seconds to escape before the blast erupts. Be advised: your only escape route is down a black-hole high speed slide. Anyone who survives will be asked to continue the hunt for escaping Zombies and will be issued laser guns to hunt Zombies in the whitewater channels.
The citizens of the world are counting on your success – we salute and honor you!
FallFest at Lake Overholser – October 27
You can really kick off the season with FallFest at the Lake Overholser Boathouse. This fall event has plenty of fun for the whole family. Floating Films at RIVERSPORT Rapids provides a fun evening for the entire family. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and watch the film for free from the banks of the lower pond or rent a tube or raft, $10 per person, for the full Floating Film experience. Tubes will be available for purchase for $19 and will come with a PFD – both are yours to keep after the film. Rentals and tube purchases are available the day of the Floating Film at Guest Services in the McClendon Whitewater Center.
Big Water Grill will be open until 10:30p for dinner, snacks and drinks.
A poll for the movie that will be shown opens October 1 on The movies are Ghostbusters, Halloweentown, Hocus Pocus, and The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Fall Youth League Championships – November 10
THE OKC RIVERSPORT Youth Rowing League gives Oklahoma City area middle school and high school students an opportunity to learn a unique Olympic sport on the Oklahoma River. A pilot program in 2009 established the first season of the OKC RIVERSPORT Youth Rowing League with 30 athletes from three High School teams (USGrant, NW Classen and Capitol Hill high schools). The league has grown to 200 athletes from eight high schools and six middle schools who will participate in the 2018 spring season.
According to Taylor, RIVERSPORT is excited to continue this program, offering both fall and spring rowing. The athletes learn to row first on indoor rowing machines and then in racing shells on the water. The seasons are 11 weeks in the fall and spring and culminate with a 500m race for the SandRidge Cup on the Oklahoma River.
