Get on Uptown… 23rd
If it seems like OKC is a little district crazy, that’s because it is (and really, what city isn’t these days?). Nonetheless, one of the areas of the metro that’s genuinely worth your attention and a visit or two is the Uptown 23rd district, just north of Midtown (apt) situated between roughly Broadway / I-235 and Pennsylvania Avenue along, well, Northwest 23rd Street (let’s be honest, with a name like Uptown 23rd, it’d be pretty weird if it weren’t). With a recent steady influx of new investment and development into cool existing and evocative older building stock, Uptown 23rd also has the added benefit of being on historic Route 66, so in addition to all the new developments, venues, offices and shops popping up in the area, visitors can see iconic places known to Mother Road enthusiasts like the Gold Dome, the Milk Bottle Grocery, Tower Theater and more.
Uptown is a great place for a day out. Some of our favorites include morning doughnuts at Hurt’s, Big Truck Tacos for lunch, Cheever’s for a fantastic dinner, catching a show at Tower Theater or the Blue Note, shopping at S. Powell and Co., grabbing tea from Urban Teahouse, eating Italian favorites with gusto at Pizzeria Gusto, getting in a workout anytime at Anytime Fitness and getting trained to not hurt ourselves at work at SafetySkills, throwing oysters down our neck at The Drake, drinks at Ponyboy or the Bunkr Club, putting some money into our accounts at Oklahoma’s Credit Union, hitting up Ur/Bun for late night eats, eating late night doughnuts at Hurt’s (what? We really like doughnuts) and more. But really, there’s so much to do in Uptown, you should just check it out for yourself!
