Convention Center, Lower Park will soon welcome visitors

From the Chesapeake Energy Arena to Scissortail Park to the Bricktown Ballpark, many of Oklahoma City’s top spots are a reality thanks to MAPS (Metropolitan Area Projects).

So what is MAPS? MAPS was first funded in December 1993 when the citizens of Oklahoma City voted to approve a temporary one-cent sales tax for capital improvements. Since then additional MAPS campaigns have been approved with projects and attractions that will continue to transform Oklahoma City.

Scissortail Park
Construction has begun on the Lower Park, adding more than 30 acres to the already sprawling outdoor oasis. Connected to the upper portion of Scissortail Park by the Skydance Bridge, the new portion will feature soccer fields, basketball and pickleball courts, a paved walking path, a demonstration kitchen and an outdoor performance venue. Construction is expected to be completed in 2022.

Oklahoma City Convention Center
Convention and event attendees will soon be wowed by a brand-new convention center—the largest single construction project in Oklahoma City history. Construction was substantially completed in November with a ribbon cutting planned for March 2021. The convention center includes a 200,000-square-foot exhibit hall, 45,000 square feet of meeting space and a 30,000-square-foot ballroom. The 605-room Omni hotel, opening in early 2021, is located next to the convention center.
