Getting involved is a slam dunk

By Marcus Elwell / Lifestyle / January 31, 2023

If you have read our little blog for very long at all, you know that here at BetterLife HQ we feel like getting involved with Oklahoma City’s vast network of nonprofits is a wonderful way to get to know your new hometown. Volunteering not only makes a significant impact on your community, but it also helps you meet and network with all kinds of amazing people. That is called a “win-win.” If you are a sports fanatic (or even if you are not) OKC has a lot of great nonprofits centered around sports that would be well worth your time to check out.

Both big and small, these organizations support the social, mental, and physical health and wellness of the metro area—in a variety of capacities. Today, we want to highlight a few of the nonprofits that offer sports-related services.

Cleats for Kids

Cleats for Kids (C4K) is a non-profit organization that provides gear to kids who cannot afford equipment but want to engage in team sports. They believe that sports are the key to change – from the field to the classroom and in life. Founded in 2011 by the McDaniel family, C4K has a footprint in numerous youth organizations in Oklahoma.

The best ability is availability – the contributions from C4K epitomize that fully. They encourage kids of all ages to participate in the program and become part of the community. Learn more about how you can get involved.

First Tee

First Tee is a youth development organization that enables kids to build the strength of character that empowers them through a lifetime of new challenges. By seamlessly integrating the game of golf with a life skills curriculum, they create active learning experiences that build inner strength, self-confidence and resilience that kids can carry to everything they do.

OKC Dodgers Baseball Foundation

Hit a home run with this organization whose mission is to support the Oklahoma community through creative partnerships, charitable contributions and programming initiatives.

The Foundation's cornerstone program is the Community Night Out initiative. The goal of this program is to provide a one-of-a-kind experience to families who would not normally be able to attend a Dodgers game.

Fields & Futures

Fields & Futures guide the youth through their proven formula of embracing the notion of engaging in team sports as the springboard to a holistic lifestyle of positivity and success. A brighter future is possible when team concepts are adopted and sports participation is active within our schools.
