Learn the ropes of the water without having to be on it with a fun and limited offering sailing school.

Captain Bill Rains, an experienced professional in the world of sailing with more than 30 years of experience, is excited to share his passion and excitement for sailing by offering a class at the recently opened Sailor & The Dock, located in Film Row.

In Captain Rains’ class, attendees will learn the basic terminology of sailing knots, ropes and lines, sailing dynamics and sail trim, and wind and weather. A lunch break will be followed by teachings of navigation rules, boat docking and mooring, and seamanship in inclement weather.

At the second meeting of the class, attendees will learn all about rescues, repairs, and anchoring. After lunch, Captain Rains will teach DIY maintenance on boats, rigging and the basics of nautical charts.

In March, there will be a chance to review all previously learned skills while aboard the Namasta, a 2015 Hunter 260 sailboat.

While you are visiting Sailor & The Dock, check out all the other micro-retail spots such as The Floating Bookshop, Drip to Drip, Hunny & Hunny and more.
