The Uptown 23rd District Association and Business Improvement District is hosting its first Uptown Outside event Saturday, July 30.

“We are excited to welcome the community back to Uptown 23rd. Closing the street is paramount to establishing us a walkable district,” said Kendall Bleakley, district manager in a press release.

The event begins at 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Hosted in the Historic Uptown 23rd District, the press release said, this event will bring the community back to the streets of Uptown by closing 23rd Street from Hudson to Walker.

“We are setting a precedent for a future where we have a completed streetscape and Uptown 23rd is seen as a walkable entertainment district,” said Stephen Tyler of Tower Theatre, treasurer.

Uptown Outside will include food trucks, vendors, music and community.

People will also be able to participate in a raffle with all collected proceeds going back to the Uptown 23rd District Association.

Holy Wave, Nia Moné, Wood Willow, LEX and Free Mode are also set to perform, the release added.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled for the musical talent Tower Theatre has helped us put together and are thrilled to watch this event grow into your next favorite annual event, said Bleakley.
