Lyric Theatre heads back to the stage
For nearly 60 years, Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma has been entertaining its audiences from the stage with its productions of musicals and plays. Of course, like most awesome things, the coronavirus pandemic forced Lyric Theatre into a six-month absence, meaning its stage in the Plaza District has been left empty. However, Lyric became one of the first professional theatre groups in the country to resume live performances when Lyric Kids’ Clubhouse Cabaret hit the stage on September 17.
For safety reasons, due to COVID, Lyric Theatre is currently performing outdoors at downtown’s Myriad Botanical Gardens Water Stage. Lyric Kids’ Clubhouse Cabaret will run through Oct. 4 and features daytime performances for the family.
For adults, you can also catch Lyric’s Moonlight Cabaret, a showcase of amazing singers belting out some of your favorite tunes. Lyric Kids’ Clubhouse Cabaret performances are: Thursday and Friday at 4 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Lyric’s Moonlight Cabaret will feature a new line-up of talent each week, with performances Thursday through Sunday at 7 p.m.
Lyric Theatre is taking the safety of its audience, staff and performers very seriously. Masks will be worn by staff at all times and patrons must have on a mask to enter. Masks can only be removed when seated in assigned seats. Seats will be socially distanced and temperature checks will be taken upon entrance. Hand sanitizer will also be available.
Just because Lyric’s stage went dark doesn’t mean they stopped entertaining. A weekly online video series was created to educate and entertain children, Lyric Kids’ Clubhouse. You can find more than a dozen episodes here.
