The Oklahoma History Center Museum is excited to bring a new exhibit titled, “Oklahoma Built Excellence: GM OKC.”

The exhibit opens Thursday, January 25, on the third floor in the Curators Corner of the Noble Gallery. The exhibit is meant to tell and elaborate on the history and story of the Oklahoma City General Motors plant and its employees.

The exhibit consists of a timeline, archived newspaper prints, physical artifacts, pictures and informational signage. Through these items, museum visitors will learn the long history of the plant and how it impacted Oklahoma City from an economic standpoint and supported the growth of Oklahoma City as a whole.

The plant provided an estimated 7,500 jobs outside of the plant and 2,600 more jobs inside it. The exhibit aims to educate its visitors on the growth of General Motors and share what happened to the employees after the closure of the plant.

The Oklahoma History Center is located at 800 Nazih Zuhdi Dr. The museum is open to the public Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Call the museum at 405-522-0765 or visit their website for admission and group rates.
