Oktoberfest in OKC

Oktoberfest began in 1810 as a celebration of the marriage of Prince Regent Ludwig of Bavaria, the later King Ludwig I, to Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen. Today, the event has transformed into the world's largest folk festival which draws six million visitors each year and continues to break records for the amount of beer that is consumed.
If you’re not able to travel to Munich to celebrate, there are several options to mark the occasion right here in Oklahoma City.
Midtown Oktoberfest presented by Fassler Hall and McNellie’s Pub will be Saturday, Sept. 23 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. along Walker Avenue outside of McNellie’s. The event will feature more than 20 German, local and other domestic styles of Oktoberfest/Marzen style beers. Enjoy German music, games and various competitions throughout the day including a wiener dog race. This annual event is one you won’t want to miss.
The National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum is hosting their third annual OktoberWest, a western take on the German tradition, from 7 to 10 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 29. Held outside on the museum grounds, the event includes German music from AlpenMusikanten, German beers, dancing, games and a costume competition. The event is for adults 21 and over.
Downtown Edmond and Frenzy Brewing Company are partnering for Oktoberfest @ Frenzy on Saturday, Oct. 14 beginning at noon at the brewery. Special release Oktoberfest beers, brats, kraut, pretzels and other German related items will be available to purchase along with themed games and a costume contest. You’ll also get to enjoy OKC’s Masopust Polka Band who will perform at 2 p.m.
Frontier City is celebrating each weekend through Oct. 1 from 1 to 5 p.m. with German inspired foods, entertainment and games. Food options include bratwurst and sauerkraut on a pretzel bun, German chocolate cake and several Oktoberfest beers. Celebrate the festival at the park and enjoy thrill rides too.
If you can’t attend any of the events but still want to celebrate, Royal Bavaria in Moore and Das Boot Camp in Norman are two area restaurants that give you a taste of Oktoberfest year-round.
Prost!
