Our districts are more than OK
Depending on how long you read this blog, you’ve seen us reference the different districts in the city. We talk about so many that it’s understandable if you have trouble keeping up with them.
Some of the districts are historic while others are still evolving. There are areas with designer-label stores and another with a pie shop that’s constantly being rated as making the best pie in the state. The more you read this blog, the more you’ll learn about these districts as we highlight what each area has to offer. Our colleagues at the OKC Convention and Visitors Bureau have a guide to the districts as well.
But if you’re looking to venture out soon to a district you haven’t explored yet, here’s a quick snapshot of them:
- Adventure District- The most aptly named district in OKC, home to the Oklahoma City Zoo, Remington Park horseracing track, Science Museum of Oklahoma, National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, and the USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium and headquarters.
- Asian District- A vibrant enclave of Asian culture in the heart of OKC. You’ll find some of the best Asian food in the region here.
- Automobile Alley- Just north of Downtown, this district used to be the primary location of the city’s car dealerships. Today it is home to local dining and shopping.
- Boathouse District- Home to future Olympians, this district features stunning architecture and plenty of outdoor activities, including the Riversport Adventure Park, where you can tackle the rapids or climb the Sky Trail.
- Bricktown- This former warehouse area is OKC’s prime entertainment district and home to the OKC Dodgers baseball team.
- Classen Curve- Located in northwest OKC, this district features luxurious retailers and a variety of dining options, from onion burgers to pizza.
- Deep Deuce- The historic neighborhood is the center of urban living in OKC.
- Film Row- What was once home to the film distribution industry for the region is now one of the metro’s quickest developing districts.
- Midtown- The perfect mix of locally-owned retail and historic homes, the area is right off the streetcar.
- Paseo Arts District- Eclectic art and great restaurants are the name of the game for this district. Be sure to check out their monthly art walk.
- Plaza District- This historic district is a true renaissance story and is now the epicenter of funky local retail in OKC. The district also hosts a monthly event called Live on the Plaza.
- Stockyards City- This district is a blast to the past and pays homage to the metro’s western heritage. There’s still a live cattle auction weekly.
- Western Avenue- This area is made up of an eclectic mix of local restaurants and bars, retail shops and boutiques, antique and furniture stores and fine-art galleries. Plan to walk this area on a nice day to see all the murals.
- Uptown 23rd- Anchored by the historic Tower Theater, you'll find great locally-owned restaurants and bars, as well as fun boutiques along NW 23rd.
